Geodesics in stationary spacetimes . Application to Kerr spacetime
The Levi-Civita connection and geodesic equations for a stationary spacetime are studied in depth. General formulae which generalize those for warped products are obtained. These results are applicated to some regions of Kerr spacetime previously studied by using variational methods. We show that they are neither space-convex nor geodesically connected. Moreover, the whole stationary part of Ke...
متن کاملThe Radial Infall of a Highly Relativistic Point Particle into a Kerr Black Hole along the Symmetry Axis
In this Letter we consider the radial infall along the symmetry axis of an ultra-relativistic point particle into a rotating Kerr black hole. We use the Sasaki-Nakamura formalism to compute the waveform, energy spectra and total energy radiated during this process. We discuss possible connections between these results and the black holeblack hole collision at the speed of light process.
متن کاملString-dust Distributions with the Kerr-nut Symmetry
We attempt to solve the Einstein equations for string dust and null flowing radiation for the general axially symmetric metric, which we believe is being done for the first time. We obtain the string-dust and radiating generalizations of the Kerr and the NUT solutions. There also occurs an interesting case of radiating string-dust which arises from string-dust generalization of Vaidya’s solutio...
متن کاملSegmenting by seeking the symmetry axis
We introduce a method for segmenting a shape from an image and simultaneously determining its symmetry axis. The symmetry is used to help the segmentation and in turn the segmentation determines the symmetry. The problem is formulated as one of minimizing a goodness of fitness function and Dijkstra’s algorithm is used to find the global minimum of the cost function. The results are illustrated ...
متن کاملGeodesics and Deformed Pseudo–riemannian Manifolds with Symmetry
There is a general method, applicable in many situations, whereby a pseudo–Riemannian metric, invariant under the action of some Lie group, can be deformed to obtain a new metric whose geodesics can be expressed in terms of the geodesics of the old metric and the action of the Lie group. This method applied to Euclidean space and the unit sphere produces new examples of complete Riemannian metr...
